Learn more about Liza Myers

Join Visionary Realist painter Liza Myers on an artist’s journey to Hawaii. Explore and interpret this enchanting island paradise through the eyes of an artist. The diverse landscape of “the big island” can’t fail to inspire you: exotic forests; volcanic highlands; pristine beaches; exquisite gardens; crashing, translucent waves and much, much more.

Work in the medium of your choice. Liza will help empower your composition and use of color in both plein air and studio work. Acrylic and watercolor are recommended since they are more portable, but the experienced oil painter is also welcome.

The workshop offers opportunities for painters at every level from the beginner, who has just begun to find their artistic path to the experienced painter who is seeking new horizons to explore.

Each day we will travel to sites to paint: rainforest and ocean, volcanic vistas and the northern highlands. The schedule will vary depending somewhat upon weather. Hamakua Retreat will serve as our base studio. Possible places where might choose to paint: Volcano National Park, Liliokolani Park, waterfalls, beaches, Parker Ranch… and more.

Award winning artist Liza Myers has led workshops in New Mexico and Vermont, and at the famed Machu Picchu in Peru. She also teaches in her studio in Brandon, Vermont and at Castleton College in Castleton, Vermont. The creative process is as integral to her well-being as breathing. Sharing that process is a trust and honor.

Liza has painted and sculpted since childhood, honing her skills at the University of New Mexico and Maryland Institute College of Art where she received a BFA and an MFA. She eagerly learns from contemporary masters and from her students. Wherever Liza goes, she creates art that defines her sense of place, delving deeply into details of light and color. Her art celebrates the natural world and our human connection with it in vivid and intricate detail.
